Summer Reading Favorites.Looking for a cool summer read? This summer the key word is: Series, Series, Series!
Kids are reading them one right after another and asking for: more more more! Whether you are a Rick Riodan fan (the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, the Kane Chronicles, and the Heroes of Olympus) or Erin Hunter's "Seekers" Series, you have plenty of reading choices this summer. Joining the Juvenile Fiction Series market are some big name adult authors also. James Patterson has two titles out in his "Middle School" series and legal thriller author John Grisham has entered the market with his Theodore Boone Series. The classic "Harry Potter" series is always in demand and for the younger crowd, author Thea Stilton's new series rivals her brother Geronimo's popularity. FYI - the Mid-Continent Public Library has a Juvenile Series page that you can access by series title, author, subject and book title. Here is the link for the subject section, http://mymcpl.org/cfapps/juvser/subject.cfm Happy reading! |
Recommendation of the month.-by Julie Bonser, Head of Youth Services, EMPL
Mockingbird by Kathryn Erskine: This story is told from the perspective of Caitlin, an artistically talented fifth grader who also has Asperger's Syndrome. She doesn't make friends or understand the world like other people do. All her life she has relied on her older brother to help... except now he is gone. This book, inspired by the Virginia Tech shootings, deals with issues of loss and acceptance but ends on a hopeful note. Recommended for grades 4-6 |
